National Children Assembly (NCA)

National Children’s Assembly and Integration Camp is an annual programme of National Bal Bhavan. It is organised from 14th November to 19th November. 14th November is the Birth Anniversary of Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru, Founder of National Bal Bhavan. Pt. Nehru envisaged Bal Bhavan as an out of school activity centre for children where they can take part in diverse activities of their choice in a friendly environment. Given the right environment, opportunity and encouragement children can be active participants who contribute to the betterment of society.

14th of November was declared as Children’s day to fondly remember Chacha Nehru, the Founder. A grand fair and carnival where lots of swings, joy rides, toy train ride, food stalls were put up for children to enjoy the day. Till 1983, 18 State level Bal Bhavans were affiliated all over India. During this period it was decided by the Board to organise a National Children’s Assembly and Integration camp for children of various states of India. The children of all strata and segment of society who participate in this camp gain knowledge on a common platform, learn to respect, be considerate and also share each other’s thoughts thus creating and nurturing the feeling of Vasudeva Kutumbakam. The purpose is to help children to learn to live together, participate in joyful activities, interact with and learn from renowned experts of art and performing arts. Till date 34 camps have been organised and many high profile dignitaries like Smt. Indira Gandhi (She was the first Chairperson of Bal Bhavan), Sh. B. Sanjeeva Reddy, Sh. Rajiv Gandhi, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Sh. Bommai, Sh. I.K Gujral, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Sh. Arjun Singh, Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani, Sh. Anil Swarup have inaugurated the Children’s Assembly. In the past years children from other countries like Bulgaria, Russia, Mongolia, Norway and Afghanistan have also been part of this Camp.

Each year a theme is assigned to the camp. The theme of this year is `Sanskriti Sangam’ a cultural confluence of music, dance, Traditional Arts and Crafts of our rich Indian cultural Heritage from 14th to 16th November 2019. Children from various States will come prepared with their traditional dances. National Bal Bhavan is inviting dance and art experts to conduct workshops for children during this period.

In these three days Performing children of National Bal Bhavan and states show case their traditional dances. Art workshops like Batik, Madhubani, Pottery, Sanjhi, Mehndi, Puppetry are being organised in the Sanskriti Mela. All activity sections will also conduct activities in the ground. Creative writing and storytelling expert has been invited. Exhibition of products made by children in various activity sections of National Bal Bhavan, JBB, Mandi and Bal Bhavan Kendras is also being put up for display. Children will also get to participate in creative games.

More than 2000 children will be witnessing the inaugural programme on 14th of November. All camping children will be given a participation certificate.
