Activities Undertaken by the Environment Section 2017-2018

The Environment Section of the National Bal Bhavan has undertaken multifaceted activities to create awareness about the Environment in Children.

 

 

VISIT TO AGARSEN KI BAOLI

Children of environment section went to Agarsen ki Baoli- an ancient step well at Delhi to understand the ancient practices of saving water. Children went on 9/9/17. They observed the step well very carefully and discussed its utility at that time. They also got to know the history behind making this step well and how these ancient practices of storing water can save today’s water shortage problems in India.

 

 

CELEBRATION OF INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR PRESERVATION OF OZONE LAYER.

International Ozone day was celebrated on 16.9.17 at Mekhla Jha Auditorium of NBB. Different member schools were invited for the same. The programme was started with a power point presentation on ozone layer. Where there was a discussion with the school children regarding their understanding about ozone layer. After this a short documentary was shown to children which was about causes of ozone depletion and what are the harms of ozone depletion. Later, there was a poster making competition on the given theme. After this there was a quiz where some questions were asked regarding ozone layer. Students with the right answers were awarded with a story book.

 

 

SNAKES OF INDIA

Children of Animal corner and Environment section did an activity about understanding different snakes of India. In this activity they first learn about what are snakes, what is their habitat, food , characters etc.. Children used waste newspapers and roll them to give the shape of the snake under the guidance of Ms. Seema Kumari. After coloring the snakes they gave a presentation to each other regarding their snake.

 

 

VISIT TO ARAVALI BIODIVERSITY PARK FOR CELEBRATING WILD LIFE WEEK

Children of Environment sent went to Aravalli Biodiversity Park on 5/10/17 for celebrating wild life week. Children saw different species of plants, butterflies and few insects. They also saw the specimens of different wild creatures. They also had an experience of snake handling; they touched the Red sand snake and understood different facts regarding snakes. Children also watched few documentaries related to save wildlife.

 

 

PAPER RECYCLING WOKSHOP WITH STAFF OF NATIONAL BAL BHAVAN

Environment section of National Bal Bhavan conducted a workshop from 10.10.17 to 31.10.17 on paper recycling which was for the staff persons only. A day wise schedule was prepared for the same. Staff members from their sections came to attend the workshop and they learned how to recycle the paper. They made many sheets of different designs and impressions.

 

 

VISIT TO NATIONAL ZOOLOGICAL PARK, DELHI

Children of Environment section and animal corner went to zoo in the month of November to observe different animals, their habitat, characters, eating habits etc.. Children saw all types of animals there like land, water, air and amphibians, reptiles, carnivores, herbivores and omnivores etc.. They observed the animal behavior and noted down the important features of them in their notebooks. They saw many water birds and saw the interdependence of plants and animals with each other. They also understood the need of creating these parks.

 

 

VISIT TO YAMUNA BIODIVERSITY PARK

Children of Environment section went to Yamuna Biodiversity Park to watch migratory birds of Delhi in the month of December. Children watched migratory birds there and observed their characters, habitat, eating habit etc.. They were guided by the facilitators there; they also identified any species of butterflies, some common and some rare species of plants. They also saw many other birds and insets there.

 

 

ORGANIC FARMING FOR ANIMAL CORNER

Children of Environment section learned to grow different vegetables at the lawn of Director’s bungalow and at the back side of Wood Park. They were guides by Sh. Munna, Ms. Seema and Ms. Preeti staff persons of NBB. Children grow spinach, carrot, radish, tomato, cauliflower and other seasonal vegetables. These vegetables were later given to the animals at animal corner. The animals were regularly feed with these vegetables and children themselves have observed different animals eating different vegetables. They understood the interrelation of plants and animals and also the importance of having organic vegetables for our health.

 

 

WINTER NATURE PROGRAMME OF NMNH CHILDREN

Forty children from different schools of Delhi came with the resource persons of National Museum for Natural History on 11.1.18 to attend one day workshop on exploring nature and environment. For them Environment section conducted different fun activities like treasure hunt, tell my source to explore and identify plants and other things around them. They also participated in the paper recycling where they learn and they made recycled paper on their own. In the second session they learned to make paper bags, folders and envelopes with the recycled paper.

 

 

VISIT TO INTERNATIONAL BOOK FAIR, PRAGATI MAIDAN

Member children of NBB went to international book fair with the instructors of Aquarium and Environment section on 12.1.18. The objective of the visit was to make them familiar with the world of books and to inculcate the habit of good reading in them. This year the theme was environment and climate change. Children saw many books there on climate change, they choose some books for them, they also went to children’s arena where they found many other interesting books for them like coloring, stories etc..
